The difference is between just the MORryde Locking RV Storage Box # MR43RR and when you add the brackets at their widest setting.
Just the box measures 25-3/4" but when you add the mounting brackets is when you'll see that 27-3/4" width that you mentioned.

Your cutout is just a little too big for the standard RV entry doors like the part # 295-000019 that you referenced. It would need to be just 1/4 inch smaller in height and width to fit.
